ABOUT THE REPORT

In Pursuit of Greatness: Bold Strategies to Grow a Strong and Diverse Educator Workforce is a report released by Latinos for Education, MassINC, and Boston University Wheelock Educational Policy Center. The report examines the progress made towards diversifying the Massachusetts educator workforce and assesses trends to simulate what the racial and ethnic composition of educators in the state will be in 2030. This report analysis builds a strong case for the passage of comprehensive legislation such as the Educator Diversity Act.   

KEY TRENDS AND FORECASTS ON EDUCATOR DIVERSITY:

• There has been progress on educator diversity, especially among newly hired teachers, yet this progress has not kept pace with the increasing diversity of the student population. 
• The increase in educator diversity has not been equally distributed across the state, as there are significant geographic disparities in the progress being made to hire more teachers of color. 
• If status quo trends hold, the representation gap between teachers of color and students of color will actually widen by 2030.
