The Bay Area has a wealth of possibilities to develop and place Latinos in leadership positions within the education sector. Over half of all California public school students identify as Latino yet only 16% of teachers identify as such and few Latinos serve as school leaders, district superintendents or other decision makers. Latinos for Education is dedicated to developing, placing, and connecting essential Latino leadership in the Bay Area’s education sector.

LATINOS FOR EDUCATION IN THE BAY AREA

We first arrived in the Bay Area in 2022 with the hybrid launch of the Aspiring Latino Leaders and Latinx Teachers Fellowships.  As a result, the community requested that we continue to cultivate and develop Latino educators in the region. We listened. We are now growing our footprint in the region and will continue to expand our programming and advocacy work.

OUR PROGRAMS

Through our programming, we are infusing Latino talent into positions of influence to build an ecosystem of educators, education leaders, and advocates in the Bay Area. Learn more about our programs available in the Bay below.

A 9-month program that supports Latino education leaders in the Bay Area to advance in their leadership journey. We support our Fellows through culturally responsive professional development and a strong network of Latino professionals locally.

The Latinx Teachers Fellowship provides a cohort of K-12 teachers in Massachusetts, Houston and the Bay Area with a learning network of peers and the tools to collaboratively prepare to maintain and improve the skills needed to serve large ELL populations.

ADVOCACY

In collaboration with a network of education organizations, Latinos for Education leads the educator diversity policy development for 1 Million Teachers of Color. Together, we are rising as a collective to change the educational landscape of the Bay Area and California.

Latinos for Education is also part of the California Educator Diversity Action Network (CEDAN). As an anchor organization of CEDAN, we are joining forces with others to create a shared vision that will support and sustain an educator workforce that reflects California’s students. As we bridge across cultures, we are creating a roadmap for collective action around shared advocacy priorities.
