The Latino Action Agenda identifies our federal policy recommendations to help ensure that the educational institutions serving Latino educators, students, and families have both the capacity and resources they need to create an education system that supports and benefits all students. Latinos for Education supports proposed bills and policies that align with the recommendations within.

Prioritizing Latino Educators, Students, and Families

Our policy recommendations will infuse more leaders into education who reflect the student population being served, and are committed to fighting for a better education system for Latino students. These four priority areas are key to shifting the Latino experience in the education system. When the recommendations within the LAA are made policy, Latinos will not only gain more access to education, but will have increased success in classrooms and, ultimately, in the workforce.

Top Congressional Priorities

Educator Diversity

The research is clear. All students perform better when there are diverse educators in the classroom. We propose ensuring that each level of education has teachers, faculty, staff, and administrators who are culturally and linguistically diverse.  

Early Childhood Education

Latino children are less likely than their counterparts to attend early childhood education. We propose ensuring all students have access to free, high-quality early childhood education that is culturally and linguistically appropriate.

K-12 Education 

Latino students across the country have unequal access to advanced coursework so they miss out on learning opportunities that set them up for future success. We propose ensuring that every student has access to a high-quality education that prepares them for college and career.  

Higher Education

Latino students experience major gaps in completion at the bachelor’s degree level. One reason for this is that 31% of Latino student borrowers leave college with debt and no degree. We need to ensure that every student can access an affordable higher education which leads to timely completion and a career that provides for economic mobility.

Ask Congress to Invest More in all Levels of Education!

The President has submitted his budget to Congress. Now both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives begin their debate on Appropriations and funding levels for Fiscal Year 2024. There are some members in Congress who would like to see a 22% cut to education funding. Congress needs to hear from YOU that we need to invest MORE in all levels of education!
