Latinos for Education Grows Its National and Policy Influence with New Vice President of Education Policy and Advocacy
With two decades of experience shaping education policy for Latinos, Erica Romero joins Latinos for Education as Vice President of Education Policy and Advocacy
Boston, MA – Latinos for Education announced today that education policy expert, Erica Romero, is joining the organization as their Vice President of Education Policy and Advocacy, where she will oversee several policy, advocacy, and engagement efforts in the federal education field and be based in Washington, DC. Erica joins Latinos for Education after spending over two decades in education policy, most recently serving as the Assistant Vice President for State Advocacy at the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU).
“The work and mission of Latinos for Education resonates not just with my professional career, but with my own – and other Latinas’ – educational experience and identity,” said Erica Romero. “I’m honored to join an organization that’s devoted to improving equity and access for the Latino community throughout the entire education pipeline and to better serve Latino parents, students, and educators.”
Erica has a breadth of experience in higher education policy development and advocacy, at HACU she advocated for policies that benefit Hispanic-Serving Institutions and Hispanic students across five states and collaborated with HACU’s national Government Relations Office. Additionally, Erica previously served as Vice President of External Relations at the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities and has worked extensively with the California state legislature and with the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans.

A California native and daughter of Mexican immigrants, Erica earned a master’s degree in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
