BOSTON, MALatinos for Education announced finance strategist and entrepreneur Betsy Castro as the organization’s founding Vice President of Finance and Operations.  Castro will set the vision for and oversee major internal functions of Latinos for Education including finance, information technology, and general operations; and more importantly build a financially sustainable future for the organization.

Castro has over 15 years of experience as a financial, operations and people strategist. Her career began in finance where she spent years doing public accounting, auditing and corporate finance; and she eventually founded Castro Concepts, LLC, a boutique consulting firm providing fractional chief financial services to mission-driven organizations. During her career in finance and operations, Castro has managed budgets ranging from $1.1M to $3.2B and has led teams of up to 30 staff.

Betsy also served as a founding leader of a charter school in Staten Island that serves English Language Learners, and has exercised her finance and operations expertise to help mission-driven nonprofit organizations grow and scale their impact.

“As a Dominicana and daughter of immigrants, I know far too well the challenges that Latino students face in our nation’s education system and I’m excited to join Latinos for Education and work with the team to set a financially sustainable vision for the organization so that we can truly elevate the voice of Latinos within the education sector,” said Betsy Castro. “Latinos for Education aligns with my values and as I step into my new role I look forward to using my many years of experience to scale and sustain the work of this amazing organization.”

Castro has served on the Board of EmpowHERto, Honor Yoga Foundation, and Blue Sky Talk. Her work in nonprofit leadership earned her the 2020 Harold L. Conover Leadership Award for exhibiting exemplary leadership qualities in a non-profit organization. Betsy holds a Master’s in Business Administration and a Bachelor’s in Accounting from Rider University.
