We are deeply honored and grateful to announce that Latinos for Education has received a $5M investment from MacKenzie Scott, representing the largest gift we have received since our founding five years ago.
This monumental act of support will be instrumental to advancing our critical work of elevating the voice and influence of Latinos within the education sector; pushing bold policy at the local, state and national level in support of Latino students; and building a network of Latino educators and leaders nationwide. As an organization that was founded five years ago, this investment is a testament to the commitment our growing team has to innovate and respond to the current needs of Latino educators, families and students disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a proud Latina founder and leader, it is not lost on me that for Latino-led organizations, investments like these are not the norm but the exception. For that reason, I am extremely grateful to MacKenzie Scott for her demonstration of support. An investment in our work is an investment in our Latino community, and when Latinos succeed, we all succeed.
As we celebrate this win, I want to thank our anchor and current funders, those who said “yes” when Latinos for Education was all but a dream and a concept on paper, and those who have been compelled in recent years to join us. I also want to extend a heartfelt congratulations to all MacKenzie Scott’s grantees who received awards this cycle – we are stronger together and will rise as a collective.
We are thrilled to redouble our efforts to develop initiatives, policies, and programs that put Latinos front and center in education and create lasting educational equity for the Latino community. And we are excited to leverage this gift in continued partnership and service para nuestra comunidad y con ganas.
With immense gratitude,
Amanda Fernandez
